I created this site for one reason: too many travelers see only the famous postcard versions of China — the Great Wall, the Bund, the crowded old towns — and miss the real, everyday China that's far more interesting.

My approach is simple: I actually go. Every guide on this site comes from first-hand visits — I walk the streets, eat where locals eat, ride the metro, get lost, and take notes. I care about the smaller destinations and the authentic details: the alleyways behind the tourist street, the shop that's been serving double-skin milk for decades, the sunset spot only locals know.

I don't promise my guides are the only right way to travel. But I do promise three things:

• First-hand over second-hand — what I write is what I saw and experienced.
• Practical over polished — I include tickets, opening hours, transport and prices, because that's what actually helps you plan.
• Honest over impressive — if something is overrated or has hidden costs, I'll tell you.

When you see a date on an article, it's the last time I checked and updated that information. Travel details change, so I keep verifying with official sources before you go.
