🍽️ Hand-Grabbed Yak

📍 Province:Qinghai 🏙️ City:Hainan
Introduction:
Plateau yak boiled plain with garlic.
Detailed Introduction:
Hand-Grabbed Yak is a signature dish of the Tibetan pastures in Hainan Prefecture, Qinghai, prized for letting the flavor of yak meat speak for itself. The method is deliberately simple: large bone-in chunks of yak are simmered in plain water with only a little salt until tender, then eaten by hand, tearing the meat apart—hence the name. It is usually served with a small dish of garlic puree or chili powder for dipping. Yak meat is firm and densely grained, becoming tender after long simmering, with a rich natural savor and no gamey smell. Range-raised on the high plateau, yak lean and active, and this dish is a main course for guests and festivals. Locals eat it with tsampa and butter tea, while visitors come for this most unadorned taste of the plateau grasslands.
