🍽️ Rebgong Butter Pastry

📍 Province: Qinghai 🏙️ City: Huangnan
Introduction:
Tongren Tibetan butter confection.
Detailed Introduction:
The Rebgong Butter Pastry is a Tibetan sweet from Tongren in Qinghai's Huangnan Prefecture, closely tied to the local Rebgong art and Tibetan Buddhist culture. It is made chiefly from yak butter, kneaded with sugar and flour and shaped into flowers, birds or auspicious motifs, creamy yellow and delicately formed. In the mouth it melts soft and crumbly, rich with milk fragrance but not cloying, sweet with the deep roundness of butter. Butter sculptures were originally offered before temple altars and gradually became a festive tea-time treat. Tongren, known as a home of Rebgong art, keeps this pastry both as food and as a carrier of Tibetan religious and handcraft tradition. It is enjoyed with butter tea and offers visitors a tasty way into Rebgong culture.
