🍽️ Wenzhou Sticky Rice
Introduction:
Sticky rice with fried dough and pork floss.
Detailed Introduction:
Wenzhou Sticky Rice is one of Wenzhou's most iconic breakfasts in Zhejiang Province. Steamed glutinous rice, soft and translucent, forms the base; on top go crispy pieces of freshly fried youtiao (Chinese cruller), a sprinkle of pork floss and sesame, and often a ladle of savory gravy simmered with minced pork and shiitake. Eat it warm, either pressed into a ball or tossed together—the rice is chewy and fragrant, the cruller shatteringly crisp, the floss salty-savory, and the gravy rich and glossy. It must be assembled to order: the rice hot, the cruller still crisp, or it loses its charm. It is the workhorse of Wenzhou's breakfast stalls and a homesickness trigger for Wenzhou people away from home, usually paired with a bowl of soft tofu pudding or soy milk for a proper local morning.
