🍽️ Blind Monk Biscuit
Introduction:
Foshan old-style biscuit with sesame and peanut aroma.
Detailed Introduction:
Blind monk biscuit is a time-honored souvenir pastry of Foshan, said to have been created by a blind pastry-maker of the He Ji shop, which gives the cake its name. It uses glutinous rice flour and sugar for the skin, with a filling of roasted peanuts, white sesame, sesame sugar and lard, rolled into small rounds and baked. The biscuits are small, round and golden, with a crumbly shell that sheds flakes on the bite and a strong nutty-sesame filling—sweet with a rich, lardy finish. Foshan locals enjoy them with morning tea and buy them as gift boxes for out-of-town visitors. That rich sesame-peanut sweetness is typical of traditional Lingnan handmade pastries, and it remains one of Foshan's most representative travel souvenirs.
