🍽️ Daliang Beng Sha
Introduction:
Fermented-bean fried biscuit, savory crisp.
Detailed Introduction:
Daliang Beng Sha is a traditional fried snack of Daliang in Shunde, Foshan, Guangdong, named for its butterfly shape with pincered ends like a crab. Flour wrappers are flavored chiefly with nanru (red fermented bean curd), mixed with sugar and salt, rolled thin, cut into butterfly shapes and deep-fried to golden crispness. It tastes savory and crisp, with the distinctive fermented aroma of red bean curd growing stronger with every chew, salty with a hint of sweet. Daliang, Shunde's core district, has a long pastry tradition, and this is one of the classic Cantonese crisp biscuits. It keeps and travels well, once a tea-time treat and now a souvenir visitors must buy in Shunde. Best with strong tea to cut the richness, a bite of beng sha with tea is the most authentic taste of Daliang.
