Maoming
🍽️ Gaozhou Lychee
Introduction:
Big juicy lychees from Gaozhou.
Detailed Introduction:
Gaozhou lychees come from Gaozhou in Maoming, on the northern edge of the tropics with ample sunlight and rainfall, making it one of China's oldest lychee-growing regions. Gaozhou grows many varieties—such as Baituo Ying, Feizixiao, Guiwei, Nuomici and Huaizhi—ripening in succession, each with large fruit, small seeds and thick, juicy flesh. Once peeled, the flesh is translucent as hardened lard, sweet and honey-aromatic on the tongue. From May to July, the lychee groves in Genzi and Fenjie towns turn red across the hills, forming a famous sightseeing route. Locals eat them fresh and also make dried lychee, lychee wine and lychee shrimp dishes. Gaozhou lychee is a national geographic-indication product and part of Guangdong's lychee culture; visiting Gaozhou in summer to pick lychees is a classic agro-tourism route in western Guangdong.
