🍽️ Huazhou Sweet Soup

📍 Province: Guangdong 🏙️ City: Maoming
Introduction:
Western Guangdong dessert: mung bean, yam, tremella.
Detailed Introduction:
Huazhou Sweet Soup represents the dessert-soup culture of Huazhou, Maoming, in western Guangdong, where Cantonese people call every sweet soup tong sui. Huazhou's version is known for its wide variety and generous ingredients: mung bean or red bean paste, sweet potato soup, yam and tremella, taro sago, and qing bu liang herbal dessert, all slow-simmered from beans, tubers, snow fungus and coconut milk. Each bowl is warm, mealy and gently sweet, never cloying; served chilled in summer and hot in winter. Sweet-soup shops line Huazhou streets, a few yuan a bowl, a daily post-meal ritual and a summer cooler—showing the Cantonese genius of treating dessert as gentle nourishment.
