Yunfu
🍽️ Sixth Patriarch Vegetarian
Introduction:
Zen Buddhist vegetarian dishes from Xinxing.
Detailed Introduction:
The Sixth Patriarch Vegetarian set comes from Xinxing, Yunfu, Guangdong, birthplace of Huineng, the Sixth Patriarch of Zen Buddhism. It blends temple vegetarian cooking with local flavours, using tofu, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, seasonal greens and bean products in clear broth to recreate the look and texture of meat and poultry without any animal product. Ingredients such as matsutake, bamboo fungus and bean curd skin are shaped and cut with skill, and the taste stays light, pure and elegant in colour. Often enjoyed during temple visits and tours of Xinxing, the meal reflects the Zen tradition of vegetarian practice while letting diners savour the natural sweetness of mountain fungi and fresh vegetables.
