Yunan Seedless Wampee is a premium fruit from the Yunan area of Yunfu, Guangdong, regarded as a rare variety of the wampee tree. Its relatively large fruit has a tawny, finely fuzzy skin; once peeled, the flesh is thick, tender and completely seedless, juicy and sweet-sour with an appetizing tang. Compared with common wampee, it has more flesh, less astringency and a balanced sweetness, eaten fresh or made into dried wampee, preserves, candied fruit and tea. Yunan lies in the mild, rainy hills of western Guangdong, ideal for the crop. Each summer locals buy it by the bag as a refreshing digestive fruit, making it one of Yunfu's most representative regional specialties.
