Xuwen pineapples come from Xuwen County on China's southernmost tip in Zhanjiang. The tropical monsoon climate and volcanic red soil make it one of China's most famous pineapple regions. Xuwen fruit is plump, golden-fleshed, juicy and low in fiber, with a well-balanced sweet-tart taste; varieties such as Bali and Golden Diamond are especially high in sugar and aroma. Each spring, Xuwen's sea of pineapples rolls across the hills and has become a famous rural sightseeing and picking destination in western Guangdong. Locals eat them fresh and also cook them into pineapple rice, pineapple ice and pineapple chicken. Xuwen pineapple is a national geographic-indication product and a representative of Guangdong's branded fruit, drawing spring travelers who come to pick and taste it in the fields.
